The history of holding industrial exhibitions in Russia is closely connected with the development of Russian industry. The first exhibition took place in 1829 in St. Petersburg, the first Moscow exhibition of industrial products was launched in 1831 by Moscow merchants and independent entrepreneurs. Nicolay I “gave his royal assent” to give six halls of the Kremlin Palace for the exhibition.
For some time industrial exhibitions were held only in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and in 1836 the state project of organizing provincial exhibitions was approved.
The area of Sokolniki was first involved in the exhibition process during the Soviet times. In 1959, in the “green area”, in park – favourite recreation place of Moscovites – a goldish cupola of extraordinary shape appeared, other exhibition halls were around it. The first show to be held here was the Exhibition of the US Industry Products. Preparations for this show implied park reconstruction, creating its new image. Since then exhibitions have been permanent residents of Sokolniki. In March, 1990 a new exhibition enterprise was founded, which evolved into a high-professional exhibition company in 12 years – Sokolniki Culture & Exhibition Centre.
Modern EcoCentre Sokolniki is a fast developing exhibition company of a new type. Creating and holding international exhibitions for all branches of industry lays the foundation of the company’s strategy. All exhibitions should be specialized and have a target audience.
The main objective of the company is to provide each branch of the Russian industry with its own professional exhibition, which will demonstrate technical and technological achievements and will indicate changes within industries. That’s why each exhibition is held together with a business programme, which includes workshops, conferences and round tables covering the most relevant themes for each branch of industry.
At present EcoCentre Sokolniki together with MVK Co. and its partners organizes and holds more than 80 specialized trade shows per year and this rate grows all the time. |
